IPOWATCH publishes education and market-structure explainers about Indian IPOs. We are not a SEBI-registered investment adviser, research analyst, stock broker, or portfolio manager. Pages on this site are not investment advice, not a buy or sell call, and not a recommendation to apply for or skip any public issue.
You can lose money
An IPO allots shares at a price inside the published band (or at the fixed price, if the issue is fixed-price). After listing, the share price is set by buyers and sellers. It can open above the issue price and finish the day below it. It can list at a discount. It can stay illiquid, especially on an SME platform, so that the on-screen price is not a price you can actually trade in size. Subscription multiples and grey-market quotes do not remove that risk.
Past listing-day moves, including moves we may describe as illustrations, are not a forecast. A company that listed well last month has no bearing on the company opening next week.
Grey-market premium is unofficial
GMP is a dealer quotation for shares that are not yet listed. It is not an NSE or BSE price, it is not a SEBI statistic, and it is not a promise from the company. Different dealers can quote different premiums on the same afternoon. Quotes can reverse when the subscription file updates or when the broader market falls. The “estimated listing price” shown on this site is arithmetic: upper end of the price band plus the latest GMP we have stored. It is a calculator, not a target.
A worked illustration: if the upper band is ₹100 and the stored GMP is ₹20, the page may show an estimated listing price of ₹120, which is 20% above the upper band. If the share actually opens at ₹105, the GMP was a poor forecast even though the arithmetic was correct. Use the GMP tracker as a sentiment board, then read how to use GMP without chasing it.
We do not arrange grey-market trades. Trading unlisted shares outside the routes permitted by law can be illegal. Nothing here invites you to do that.
Subscription numbers are incomplete by themselves
A “50 times” headline can be 80 times in the QIB book and 2 times in retail, or the reverse. Retail allotment chances in an oversubscribed retail book depend on the retail multiple and the lottery, not on the headline total. Day-one figures are often revised. Read how to read subscription before you treat a multiple as demand from people like you.
Allotment links are signposts
The allotment hub points to registrar websites. IPOWATCH does not process allotments, refunds, or UPI mandates. Status on a registrar page is the registrar’s status. If a link fails, go to the registrar’s own site and select the company there. Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with a page that arrived from a message or an ad pretending to be an allotment check.
Offer documents govern the issue
The draft red herring prospectus and the red herring prospectus contain the business description, risk factors, financials, objects of the issue, and the basis for the issue price. A short “about” paragraph on an IPO page cannot carry that weight. If we have not finished a financial table, the table is missing — the company did not become unanalysable. Open the prospectus filed with SEBI and the exchanges.
SME issues add extra care. The minimum application size is larger, the investor set is narrower, and the secondary market can be thin. Read SME IPO risks before you compare an SME GMP with a mainboard GMP as if they were the same product.
No duty to update your personal situation
We do not know your income, your debts, your time horizon, or whether you already hold similar businesses. A guide that says “retail investors often do X” is a description of a habit, not an instruction to copy it. Tax treatment of listing gains and short-term trades depends on your facts and on current law. We do not give tax advice.
Advertising
Third-party ads, including Google AdSense when enabled, are sold by the ad network. The presence of an ad near an IPO page does not mean the advertiser, Google, or IPOWATCH recommends that IPO.
